"The way Irene explained the work to me was so simple and easy to follow. I'd done a distance learning course with another learning provider and I was struggling to understand the photocopied answer they'd sent out to me in the post. The tutor was never available and email responses just said 'refer to the notes'. I'm so glad I met Irene. And I'm grateful for everything that she's taught me." Amina, Legal Cashier 2010

Still got Questions About Our Legal Cashiers Solicitors Accounts Rules Course?
Hopefully, we'll answer a few of them here...
What is covered on the course?
We look at solicitor accounts - client account, office account, client interest, vat and disbursements.
Is it computerised?
No. We work on manual accounts - debits and credits. This isn't about learning the in's and out's of a legal software package... You can contact the specific software provider for that - This Legal Cashiers course is about learning solicitors accounts, and how to apply the rules to different situations and scenarios. We're working out of a workbook, so we're all together. And when you get back to the office / your clients, you'll be able to use the knowledge and information - regardless of the type of legal accounts package that you use.
Is there an exam?
No. We're not going to give you an exam. At the end, we can give you a certificate of attendance, which you can use on your CV. I'm sure there are qualifications out there which you can take - e.g. like the AAT - but we're the course providers - like BPP - who are running the courses.
Would I be taken on / offered a job after this?
The problem we're seeing at the moment is that there's a lot of people out
there going for legal bookkeeping jobs but their knowledge and skills aren't up
to date or relevant for that field. So although we might not be able to take you on - you'll find your
chances are improved in the marketplace if you can show that you're keeping
your skills up to date and that you know how to apply the Solicitors Accounts Rules.
How long does the course last?
It's 1 day. One session 930 to 430. We'll be there from 9am, and you're welcome to stay for a glass of wine and do some networking 430-5, but the core of the course is 930am to 430pm. We understand that people are busy, they have jobs to do or other personal arrangements - so we've condensed it all into one day.
What level is this taught at?
It's Level 3 - suitable for Juniors and above and people with no knowledge of solicitors accounts. We'll assume attendee's will have done some sort of accounting before - but nothing to do with solicitors - and thats the area we'll focus on - so you don't need to have ever set foot inside a solicitors office before.
After doing this, can you do the books for
solicitors or normal business?
The Solicitors Accounts Rules only really effect solicitors in business. The rules are what they have to adhere to. But accountants might find our course helpful, especially if they have solicitor clients which they have to sort out and understand.
Where is the course going to be?
In Central London - just of Oxford Street. It's on one level - the ground floor - and is suitable for anyone with mobility issues. But if you have any concerns and need extra equipment, adaptation or even for lunch - food allergies... just let us know as we're willing to accommodate everyone.
Can I have more information?
